exhibition of swiss contemporary sculptor Marc Raymond

Marc Raymond is a Swiss sculptor who employs an assembly technique to create minimalist, refined works. He devotes himself to contemporary abstract sculpture, favoring an economy of means through monochromatic creations. Primarily crafted from wood and painted plywood, his sculptures have been exhibited in galleries and cultural centers throughout Europe and Canada. Recently, he has shown his work in Switzerland at the Galerie Grande Fontaine in Sion, at the Athens Art Gallery in Greece, and at the Alliance Française Gallery in Lisbon.

Since 2009, Mr. Raymond has been a member of VISARTE (the Swiss Professional Association of Visual Artists). He has received several distinctions in Switzerland, where he has completed various public commissions. His career is documented in SIKART, the biographical dictionary of the Swiss Institute for Art Research.

In addition to his sculptural work, the artist regularly works with paper — through series of cut-outs, engravings, and inks — as well as photography; mediums that share the same quest for simplicity as his sculptures.

Born in 1968 and originally from Saillon, Switzerland, Marc Raymond graduated from the Swiss School of Sculpture in Brienz, specializing in statuary. He currently lives and works in Lisbon.

Marc Raymond shapes materials with this sensitivity which allows, from the inert, to create a sculpture full of life. We feel the gestures of the man inhabited by a perhaps cosmic dimension which sometimes surpasses him and which he must materialize in his works. The emotions and inner life of the artist suddenly appear in full light, a way of materializing a quest and a harmony to be perfected, to be constructed, to be made visible.
